II 111. k l . Every 7 minutes and 30 seconds, 1 woman in the United States loses her battle with lung cancer;
and
III II - RI Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of women in the United States, and has one of the lowest 5
year survival rates of all cancer types, at 17.7 percent; and the rate of new lung cancer cases in women has
increased 94 percent over the last 39 years; and
VFI I.1� I Not only are women disproportionately affected by lung disease, but they also influence more
than 8o percent of the healthcare decisions for their families; and by educating women, we will expand our
impact and increase the likelihood that women will not only make healthy decisions for themselves, but also
for their families, including the men, women and children that they love; and
'WHEREAS, Advocacy and increased awareness will result in screening and early detection for people with
lung cancer that will ultimately save lives; and public support for research funding will result in better
treatment and early detection methods that will ultimately save lives; and
'WHEREAS, LUNG v0l(Ct is a national initiative led by the American Lung Association, to defeat lung
cancer; and to improve awareness of lung cancer and be a force that changes the startling facts; and to
change people's minds about what it means to have lung cancer, so that everyone understands that anyone
can get lung cancer; and to raise our voices for research innovation that will lead to early detection for all and
better treatments that give everyone a fighting chance.
NK \\ THEREFORE, I, CHARLLS ]LACEY, Mayor of the City of Winter Springs, Florida do hereby Proclaim
the second week in May 2o18 as
throughout the City of Winter Springs, Florida and encourage all residents of Winter Springs, Florida to learn
more about lung cancer, risk factors, and screening options. NG
