WHEREAS, The month of March is Women's History Month and celebrates the significant contributions women of all
races, ethnicities, and backgrounds have made to the world; and
WHEREAS, Women play a critical role in the vitality and diversity of our communities, and are essential to ensuring the
Cityof Winter Springs is well -represented; and
'WHEREAS, While the twentieth century was a pivotal time of growth for women entering politics, women remain
underrepresented in male -dominated fields, thus, providing opportunities to support women in public office is imperative; and
WHEREAS, In every line of work, the perspective that women bring is important, insightful, and vital to the men, women
and children of this great county; and especially in government, women have much to bring to all echelons, including School
Boards, Municipal and County Government, as State Legislators, and all the way to the highest positions of trust in
Washington D.C.; and
HEREAS, Recognizing women in public office will bring awareness to the fundamental necessity of their work and will
inspire other young people to serve their communities; and we specifically honor and offer our appreciation to all of the
women who currently serve in public office, as on a daily basis, they show their true commitment and dedication to the
residents of their communities, in their individual states, and collectively, to all those in these United States of America; and
WHEREAS, We wish to acknowledge Commissioner Jean Hovey who is in her 9`h year of Elected Office as a respected
public servant who currently serves the City of Winter Springs in an exemplary, honorable, and outstanding manner.

and 1 encourage our citizens to visit www.womenshistorvmonth.Pov to learn more about those who came before us and who
started the change; and 1 call upon the people of Winter Springs, Florida to unite as we support the success of women in
public office and observe every March 19`h with appropriate activities, events, programs and most importantly, thanks and
appreciation to all women who serve in elected office.
