REGULAR MEETING
OCTOBER 20, 2022
CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Gerry Marino called to order the Thursday, October 20, 2022
Regular Meeting of the Veteran and Veteran Family Advisory Committee at
5:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Municipal Building (City Hall, 1126
East State Road 434, Winter Springs, Florida 32708).

Assistant City Clerk Tristin Motter, present
A moment of silence was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

CHAIRPERSON MARINO. MOTION FAILS DUE TO LACK OF SECOND.

**Note: below is the order in which the agenda items were discussed**
501) General discussion on how to increase the Veteran involvement in the
Hometown Harvest and the Winter Wonderland event(s)
Mr. Brain Dunigan, Park Manager, Parks and Recreation department
introduced the item relating to the City wanting the include Veterans more in
City events. Staff opened discussion for the Committee to obtain suggestions
and initiative for Veterans or the VFW to get more involved. Chairperson
Marino asked about advertising and asked about mail out inclusion in the City’s
utility bills to get news out. City staff relayed the City does utilize the mail out
for bigger events but that staff could look into distribution for smaller events
as well. Additional discussion ensued regarding event calendar for 2023,
Veteran based events, and Hometown Hero nominations. Starting in 2023 it
was requested by the Committee to receive more information regarding
future events. Continuing, a discussion ensued on future events as well
Committee Member Otto relayed he would be putting a wrath on the City’s
Veterans Memorial for “Wraths Across America”.
500) Discussion on Meeting Date and time
Assistant City Clerk Motter gave two suggestions for changes to the
Committee consisting of the 3rd Tuesday or Thursday of March, June,
September and December or the 2nd Thursday of January, April, July and
October at 5:30 pm.
"I WILL MAKE A MOTION TO CHANGE THE QUARTERLY MEETINGS FOR 2023
TO START, FIRST MEETING JANUARY THE 12TH THEN EVERY 90 DAYS AFTER
THAT OR SPECIAL MEETINGS COULD BE CALLED AT THE REQUEST OF THE
CHAIRMEN. (THE 2ND THURSDAY IN JANUARY, APRIL, JULY AND OCTOBER
AT 5:30)." MOTION BY VICE-CHAIRPERSON MILLER. SECONDED BY
COMMITTEE MEMBER OTTO. DISCUSSION.
