HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020 11 16 Informational 201 - Results of the Tuesday, November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election • INFORMATIONAL AGENDA ITEM 201 ,n m=ared CITY COMMISSION AGENDA I NOVEMBER 16, 2020 REGULAR MEETING 1959 TITLE Results of the Tuesday, November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election SUMMARY The City of Winter Springs (via the Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Office) held a General Municipal Election on November 3, 2020. This Agenda Item is to inform the Mayor and City Commission of the results of the November 3, 2020 Winter Springs General Municipal Election. As noted in the Winter Springs Charter: Section 4.03. - Election and terms. (a)The regular election of mayor and commissioners shall be held at the time provided for in Section 8.01 of this Charter. All elections shall be for four-year terms of office. The terms of the mayor and commissioner shall begin at the next scheduled regular or special meeting of the city commission of each year an election is held, and its members shall serve until their successors have taken office. This year, the following Seats were up for Election [for a four (4) year Term of Office]: • Seat One: Currently held by Commissioner Jean Hovey • Seat Three: Currently held by Deputy Mayor Ted Johnson • Seat Five: Currently held by Commissioner Geoff Kendrick The Seminole County Supervisor of Elections should be providing Certified Results at a later date. In the meantime, when this Agenda Item went to publication, the results as shown below were "unofficial" 8 COMMISSIONER SEAT ONE: (4 YEAR TERM) Matt Benton 11,809 Votes 60.93% James Evans 7,573 Votes 39.07% COMMISSIONER SEAT THREE (4 YEAR TERM) Ted Johnson 9,515 Votes 47.85% James Q. Mitchell 3,308 Votes 16.63% Barbara Watkins 7,063 Votes 35.52% COMMISSIONER SEAT FIVE (4 YEAR TERM) Rob Elliott 11,109 Votes 58.05% Geoff Kendrick 8,027 Votes 41 .95% RECOMMENDATION Staff requests the City Commission receive and review the information provided in this Agenda Item. 9
