,n m=ared CITY COMMISSION AGENDA I OCTOBER 26, 2020 REGULAR MEETING
1959
TITLE
Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations
SUMMARY
During the City Commission workshops, one of the items discussed was
renewable resources. The City's Comprehensive Plan articulates the vision of
its community and establishes policies to achieve those goals. The first goal in
The Conservation Element of the City's 2030 Comprehensive Plan is to protect
and conserve the City's natural resources and maintain a quality
environment. This is followed by the objective regarding air quality.
Furthermore, the policies listed below provide the City guidance in achieving
these goals of improved air quality.
Policy 1 .1 .4: Utilize the most fuel-efficient vehicles in their class or category, to
the extent practical, as the City replaces vehicles within its fleet.
Policy 1 .1 .6: Participate in air quality public information programs and
encourage alternative forms of transportation.
Staff has contacted Mr. Doug Kettles from the Central Florida Clean Cities
Coalition, Mr. Peter King from Duke Energy, and Collen Kettles from Florida
Solar Energy (UCF) to help achieve these goals. Duke Energy has a program
that will install charging stations under a grant program. These stations would
be maintained by Park & Plug for the duration of the two (2) year program.
The Site Agreement is currently being reviewed. Should the City move forward
with this program it has the potential to save seven to ten thousand dollars
for the installation of the charging stations. The City would make one of the
charging stations available to the public. Staff hopes to bring back to the
Commission for its consideration, the Site Agreement and purchase request
for 2 electric vehicles.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Commission receive and review the information.
