REGULAR MEETING
TITLE
Florida SeeSay Crime Tip Application
SUMMARY
Staff requests the City Commission review the following information on the new
Florida "SeeSay" application being implemented bythe Florida Department of Law
Enforcement (FDLE). Last year, the FDLE created a web-based application that is
also available for mobile devices for the public to report criminal or suspicious
activity to local law enforcement. The application follows the "see something, say
something" initiative law enforcement nationwide has emphasized to enhance
safety and security in our communities. The SeeSay application will serve as a
common platform for all Florida residents to use instead of having multiple like
applications based on local jurisdiction or geographic area.
Staff has been working with members of the FDLE to prepare to implement this
application locally. At this time, the Police Department is prepared to launch the
application to the public. The application is currently available for download on
mobile devices. Within the application, users can report suspicious circumstances
anonymously. Those tips are logged and categorized by FDLE. Simultaneously,
members of the WSPD are notified, and the tip can be acted on promptly. There
are redundancies built-in to make sure tips are not inadvertently forgotten or
skipped over. All of these tips are housed by FDLE infrastructure. The retention
and dissemination of public records made of the City will be coordinated through
FDLE. Our city legal staff has vetted this process before implementation. The web
application can be found at the following web address:
https://vvww.fdle.state.fl.us/FFC/S4/SAP-Home.aspx
As of February 20, 2020, the Winter Springs Police Department is one of 48 law
enforcement departments state-wide preparing to present this application to our
public.
