HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022 02 02 PARAC Regular Meeting Minutes CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 02, 2022 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Arnie Nussbaum called the Regular Meeting of Wednesday, February 02, 2022 of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to order at 5:29 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Municipal Building (City Hall, 1126 East State Road 434, Winter Springs, Florida 32708). Roll Call: Chairperson Arnie Nussbaum, present Vice-Chairperson Richard Lecky, absent Committee Member Art Gallo, present Committee Member Jim Van Kleunen, present Committee Member Andrew Zacharias, present via phone Committee Member Karen Owens, present Committee Member Charles Tabscott, present Committee Member Sabrina Parsons, present Assistant City Clerk Tristin Motter, present A moment of silence was held and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. REGULAR AGENDA - PART I 500) Election for Chairperson of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for Calendar Year 2022 “I NOMINATE ARNIE NUSSBAUM FOR ANOTHER TERM.” MOTION MADE BY COMMITTEE MEMBER GALLO. SECONDED BY COMMITTEE MEMBER ZACHARIAS. No one addressed the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. Chairperson Nussbaum closed “Public Input”. CONSENT AGENDA 300) Approval of the Wednesday, November 3, 2021 Parks and Recreation Regular Meeting Minutes "I MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 3RD." MOTION BY COMMITTEE MEMBER GALLO. SECONDED BY CHAIRPERSON NUSSBAUM. DISCUSSION. MOTION PASSED WITH UNANIMOUS CONSENT PUBLIC HEARINGS AGENDA 400) Not Used CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING – FEBRUARY 02, 2022 PAGE 3 OF 4 REGULAR AGENDA - PART II 502) Park Naming Discussion Mr. Brian Dunigan, Parks Manager, Parks and Recreation Department reintroduced the park naming agenda item. Staff opened to floor to Committee to relay their ideas and thoughts they came up with for potential names. Questions and comments ensued about if the City had an already established naming convention for parks and if so what that naming convention was. The City’s current naming convention for parks is to create a theme and then naming the park the theme. Staff relayed their thoughts for making the smallest parcel into a Seminole Trail rest stop due to its position next to the Cross Seminole Trail. Suggestion was given by the Committee to contact the environmental club at Winter Springs High School to give assistance with naming the parcels. Several suggestions were given to name the smallest parcel "Seminole Trail Park". The Committee questioned what Staff had been referencing the largest parcel, south of Winter Springs Village and north of “The Blake” Apartments, as and Staff relayed they had been calling the parcel "Wetlands Park”. Discussion on adding Boardwalks for potential nature trails and putting up Bat houses or Bird houses was also given. Further discussion followed regarding how to include the High School Environmental Club going forward, what other legal uses the parcels could be and tree removal on the parcels. The Committee recapped on the suggested names, "Seminole Trail Park" or "Seminole Nature Trail Park" and additionally suggested that all three parcels should be similarly named and themed. 503) Pickleball Court Update Mr. Brian Dunigan gave an update on the Lake Jesup Overlook Project and Pickleball courts. Relaying the changes in the planned development and how the stages for the project were rearranged. Mr. Dunigan gave additional updated on other City projects, recent events and let the Committee know of the upcoming events that are on the City’s calendar. 600. REPORTS No Reports were given.
