HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022 07 11 Regular 502 - Discussion on Florida League of Cities Legislative Policy Committees + , REGULAR AGENDA ITEM 502 CITY COMMISSION AGENDA I JULY 11, 2022 REGULAR MEETING TITLE Discussion on Florida League of Cities Legislative Policy Committees SUMMARY The Florida League of Cities' Legislative Policy Committees set the legislative agenda for the League and Florida's 411 municipalities. Appointments are typically a one-year commitment and involve developing the League's Legislative Action Agenda detailing priority issues that are most likely to affect daily municipal governance and local decision making during the upcoming legislative session. Policy committee members also help League staff understand the real-world implications of proposed legislation and are asked to serve as advocates throughout the legislative process. Additional information can be found on the Florida League of Cities Website HERE For 2021-2022 the following Commissioners served on a Legislative Policy Committee: • Mayor Kevin McCann - Finance, Taxation, & Personnel Committee • Commissioner Matt Benton - Transportation & Intergovernmental Relations Committee • Deputy Mayor Kevin Cannon - Utilities, Natural Resources, & Public Works Committee • Commissioner Ted Johnson - Land Use & Economic Development Committee • Commissioner TiAnna Hale - Municipal Administration Committee To serve on a 2022-23 legislative policy committee, you must sign up by August 15, 2022. 2022-2023 Meeting Schedule • September 16, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Lake Buena Vista South, 4955 Kyngs Heath Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746 • October 7, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Lake Buena Vista South, 4955 Kyngs Heath Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746 1 • December 1, 2022, during FLC Legislative Conference at the Embassy Suites Lake Buena Vista South, 4955 Kyngs Heath Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746 RECOMMENDATION Staff requests the Commission discuss and determine desired appointments for each Legislative Policy Committee. 2
