HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022 03 14 Awards/Presentations 100 - Promotion Ceremony - Interim Police Chief Matt Tracht • AWARDS AND PRESENTATIONS ITEM 100 d CITY COMMISSION AGENDA I MARCH 14, 2022 REGULAR MEETING 1959 TITLE Promotion Ceremony - Interim Police Chief Matt Tracht SUMMARY Interim Chief Matthew Tracht started his police career after serving four years in the United States Army. He honorably served with the Screaming Eagles of the 101 st Airborne Division and later the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea. Upon entry back into the civilian world, Matt started his law enforcement career with the city of Deland from 1998 to 2000. He served as a patrol officer and was ultimately assigned to represent the police department as the Housing and Urban Development officer. In January 2000, he transferred to the city of Winter Springs. While working for the city, Matt was assigned to various agency functions. He started in road patrol, where he worked until he was selected to the Criminal Investigations Bureau. There, he was assigned to investigate property and person crimes cases. After that, he was chosen as the agency's Training Coordinator and held that position until he was promoted to Lieutenant. Next, he assumed command of a nighttime patrol shift until he was selected to work hand in hand with the Chief of Police in the agency's Internal Affairs Division. Matt was later assigned back to the Operations Bureau and was promoted to the rank of Captain, where he was responsible and oversaw the agency's patrol, K9, traffic, community relations, training, and bike unit, concluding that Matt was assigned to command the Support Services Bureau, which consisted of Code Enforcement, Records, Building, and Fleet. While in the position, he was promoted as the agency's first Deputy Chief of Police. Matt spent 15 years on the agency SWAT team, in which he held a leadership position throughout his tenure. Matt holds an Associate degree in Criminal Justice Technology from Seminole State College. He was selected as one of only two officers in the history of the police department to attend the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where he attended and graduated from session 268. Additionally, he worked as an Adjunct Professor at Seminole State College's Criminal Justice Academy. 1 RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends Commission to receive the information 2
