CALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chairperson Hal Sloas called to order the Wednesday, December 8, 2021
Regular Meeting of the Veteran and Veteran Family Advisory Committeeat5:31
p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Municipal Building (City Hall, 1126
East State Road 434, Winter Springs, Florida 32708).
Roll Call:
Chairperson Dorothy Pehowic, absent
Vice-Chairperson Harold (Hal) Sloas, present
Committee Member Wayne Douglas, present
Committee Member Gerry Marino, present
Committee Member Robert Miller, absent
Committee Member Richard Otto, present
City Clerk Christian Gowan, present
A moment of silence was held, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
No changes were made to the Agenda.

300)Approval of the Wednesday, April 7, 2021 Veteran and Veteran Family
Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes.

500)Discussion on City Events and Veteran Participation
Ms. Casey Howard, Deputy City Manager and Mr. Shawn Boyle, City Manager
spoke about the role of the Committee and the desire to increase veteran
participation at city events.
Vice- Chairperson Sloas proposed a program for review of medical records and
provided a handout for the record. Manager Boyle noted that he thought the
proposal was best referred to the Attorney but was not opposed to potentially
providing space at City Hall.
Further discussion followed on the utilization of existing County programs, the
desire not to create duplicative services, and the potential of inviting the
County to a future meeting to discuss the services they provide.
Discussion then turned to a potential survey being sent out to determine what
programs or services veterans in the city may like to see. Ms. Howard noted
that the survey could be sent out either through the water bills, email lists,
and/or social media.
"MOTION TO DEVELOP AND SEND OUT A SURVEY TO DETERMINE DESIRED
PROGRAMS AND/OR SERVICES FROM CITY VETERANS." MOTION MADE BY
COMMITTEE MEMBER MARINO. SECONDED BY COMMITTEE MEMBER
DOUGLAS. DISCUSSION.
VOTE: DOUGLAS (AYE); MARINO (AYE); OTTO (AYE); SLOAS (AYE)
MOTION CARRIED 4-0.
The Committee agreed to discuss this further at the next meeting.

Brief discussion followed on a potential Memorial Day event and the potential
of bringing the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall to the City.

Vice-Chairperson Sloas opened "Public Input".
Mr. Rob Elliott, 92S Chokecherry Court, Winter Springs, Florida commended
the Committee on their many ideas and engagement, thanked them for their
service, and encouraged them to keep providing valuable input.
Vice-Chairperson Sloas closed "Public Input".
ADJOURNMENT
Vice-Chairperson Sloas adjourned the Regular Meeting at 6:26 p.m.
