HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021 04 06 Youth Council Regular Meeting Minutes CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA MINUTES YOUTH COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING APRIL 6, 2021 CALL TO ORDER City Clerk Christian Gowan called to order the Tuesday, April 6t", 2020 Regular Meeting of the Youth Council at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Municipal Building (City Hall, 1126 East State Road 434, Winter Springs, Florida 32708). Roll Call: Council Member Weston Burr, present Council Member David Djukic, present Council Member Meghan Geist, present Council Member Madyson Herber, present Council Member Catherine Li, present Council Member Thomas Roesner, present Council Member Soleil Sanabria, present Council Member Chloe Zijl, present City Clerk Christian Gowan, present Assistant to the City Clerk Tristin Motter, present A moment of silence was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. No changes were made to the Agenda. REGULAR AGENDA - PART I 500) Orientation City Clerk Gowan reviewed the provided information, including Resolution 2020-01 establishing the Youth Council, the Sunshine Amendment, public meeting laws, and the minutes policy. 501) Election for Chairperson of the Youth Council for Calendar Year 2021 City Clerk Gowan opened nominations for the Chairperson position for the 2021 Calendar year. Not Used PUBLIC INPUT Chairperson Li opened "Public Input" Mr. Robert Elliot, 925 Chokecherry Court encouraged everyone to be involved in the City and offered suggestions for where the Youth Council might focus their efforts. Chairperson Li closed "Public Input". CONSENT AGENDA 300. Not Used PUBLIC HEARINGS AGENDA 400. Not Used REGULAR AGENDA - PART II S03) Discussion on City Events and Youth Participation Ms. Ilana Berman, Marketing and Events Manager, Operations Department and Ms. Meghan McNeil, Marketing and Events Coordinator, Operations Department briefly reviewed City events and asked for suggestions on how to increase youth participation. Discussion followed on potential volunteer opportunities and the need for community service hours. Commissioner Rob Elliott spoke about his proposed Community Work Day and noted that youth participation would be greatly appreciated. CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS,FLORIDA MINUTES YOUTH COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING-APRIL 6,2021 PAGE 4OF4 Further discussion followed on City communications, the use of social media, and the possibility of pushing out City messages through school websites and social media accounts. 504) Establishment of Meeting Dates & Times City Clerk Gowan asked about scheduling future meetings. Discussion followed on availability, preferences on meeting frequency, and consideration of meeting times for those that may work during the summer. The Youth Council agreed that bi-monthly meetings were their preference and that a poll should be sent to members to find a date that would work best. City Clerk Gowan noted he would send a poll to Council Members prior to the next meeting, to be held in June, and use the responses to choose the specific date and time.
