WHEREAS, Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a neurological speech disorder caused by the brain's inability to send accurate
messages to the muscles, directly affecting the lips, tongue, and jaw, making it extremely difficult for a child to communicate language
regardless of comprehension; and
As an under -recognized and often misdiagnosed condition, the symptoms of Childhood Apraxia of Speech can lead to
educational disparities and social challenges; and
WHEREAS, Childhood Apraxia of Speech affects approximately 1 in I,OOD children, and its symptoms cause neurological, social,
developmental, and emotional challenges; and
W, 1 T.V T; k 41. May 14, 2019 marks the fifth annual Childhood Apraxia of Speech Day during which awareness will be raised throughout
Florida about Childhood Apraxia of Speech, an extremely challenging speech disorder in children; and
It is imperative there be greater public awareness about Childhood Apraxia of Speech in Florida among community
members, physicians, education professionals, policy makers, and elected officials; and
