My name is Ken Spalthoff. I have lived in Winter Springs for over 12 years and have been involved with the inner workings of our city government for the majority of that time. I've attended most of the commission meeting held for roughly ten years now. As many of you know I was the gentleman that started the whole dialog of throttling back of the over-development of Winter Springs, during my campaign for District Five Commissioner, roughly six years ago. Three years ago I ran against Mayor Lacey, and nearly won, under the same campaign platform of bringing "Smart Growth" to Winter Springs. I received 43% of the resident's votes for Mayor during that election which is the equivalent to nearly 7000 voting residents of Winter Springs. Many said that was an impressive amount of votes when going up against a seated incumbent Mayor of 8 years, especially since Lacey also engaged in extremely dirty mudslinging actions during the campaign against me, my wife, and children, with a developer funded campaign. I suppose that was the only way Lacey could win was to try to tarnish his opponent's reputation so he'd shine brighter by default. In spite of that election my drive for the success of our great city has not wavered at all. I never stopped attending city commission meetings after the election and also being involved with candidate campaigns, that I thought would be best for the resident's desired direction forward for our city. In the last 18 months I started a Facebook site called ILWSFL, which has accumulated over 8300+members. Of these many ILWSFL members, the large majority of the Winter Springs business owners, employees of those businesses, and residents within the city and surrounding areas, are all ILWSFL members. Supporting these small businesses with free advertising and promotion has aided in the success for many start-ups and existing businesses within the city of Winter Springs. Promoting this city and the great businesses within it I feel should be one of the main objectives withan the role as Mayor of Winter Springs. I'm already playing that role out of the goodness of my heart to help support the residents and the businesses within Winter Springs. I'm also presently proudly serving on the city's Parks & Rec advisory board. As we all know, skill sets are important for anyone in the position of Mayor. Can they manage a team? Do they bring positive reinforcement and encouragement to staff and to city events? Are they a good planner and promoter? Do they understand budgeted goals?Are they a"numbers" guy and an outgoing people person? Do they have a solution based mindset that can make things happen and get things done despite the obstacles before them? Do they listen to the residents and share their vision forward for our great city of Winter Springs?Do they regularly volunteer within the community? Do they have a history and a proven track record in all these mentioned areas? I stand here today to tell you that I absolutely have all of these attributes and a proven track record to back it all up! In the past 10 years in Winter Springs I've sponsored and produced (6) 5K Run/Walk events in Winter Springs to help stock the food pantries for the SCPS program called "Families in Need" (FIN). These events raised an estimated $5000+ in food donations over the time period engulfing those events. These events were all sponsored by myself, including all costs involved to produce them. In the last 8 years I've also produced (6) free "Kid's Movie Nights" productions on a huge 9'x 12' projection screen for the kids and parents of our community. Free popcorn and water was even provided for everyone. In my present career as a large event producer for the last 28+ years, I work with large diverse teams to produce huge events all over the country. I understand budgets, goals, team management, and promotion. I've built a company up from 8 employees to over 64 employees' in under 5 years and took gross revenue from around 3.2 million to clearing 27+million in revenue in 2019. I have several college degrees and I'm presently fmishing up the last few courses of my fourth degree at UCF in Political Science/Pre-Law. I put myself through college working nights and weekends, with zero loans or help from anyone. In my personal life, I have been married for 21 years to my amazing SCPS teacher wife LeeAnn. We have three beautiful daughters ages 15, 13, and 10, that all attend the public school system here in Winter Springs. I have also served proudly in the United States Army during Desert Storm. In conclusion I believe that I am highly qualified for the position of Mayor. I have a proven track record of supporting the city's residents and the businesses within it. I regularly attend commission meetings and fully understand the challenges presently before the city in the coming years. I agree with the voters requests for a reduction of high-density housing and improved water quality. I already have a strong understanding of how the city's government runs and operates. I'd be remiss if I also didn't mention again the fact that I have already received the approval of nearly half of the Winter Springs residents to be their Mayor, from the last election, only 28 months ago. With this application I bring with it nearly 7000 Winter Springs votes that were cast requesting Ken Spalthoff to be our next Mayor of Winter Springs. I know no other mayoral applicant that could possibly bring that approval qualification and voter certification of the residents to this application process.
