This should answer the info we discussed on the Runoff — looks like that Agenda Item from Tara for
Ordinance 2008-16 should go on the Agenda for 08/11/08.
Thank you,
Andrea

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your comments — sounds fine. My note to Tara was just something I noticed, and just
wanted to make sure all angles were covered. I knew you would have everything under control. I
appreciate your time.
Thank you,
Andrea

Hi Andrea, I understand a runoff election may present a problem with timely seating a new commissioner in time
to meet the December charter requirement. The important thing to keep in mind is that the City must
accommodate absentee and overseas electors in order to comply with State law.
The ordinance states the runoff election will be scheduled "within 60 days" by the City Commission. The
Commission may be able to schedule the election in time to meet the December deadline, provided absentee and
oversea ballots are handled. The ordinance gives the Commission the flexibility to make that determination when
and if a runoff is necessary. Further, according to the Supervisor, absentee and overseas ballots can likely be
handled within 30 days. In the event, the election can not be held before the December swearing in of the new
Commissioner, the sitting Commissioner will continue to serve as a holdover Commissioner until such time the
runoff election occurs and the new Commissioner is sworn -in.
I am prepared to address this issue with the City Commission at the meeting.
Regards,
Anthony
