such a fee is possible. These companies are simply looking for payoff amounts and sometimes an estoppel letter
prior to closing. In most instances, the City's liens are code enforcement or utility related. If the City doesn't have
a system, you may want to consider estabishing a system of tracking these liens.

Subject: New Possible Revenue Source??
All,
At our recent Clerks Conference that I attended about 10 days ago, some Clerks were mentioning some
cities that now charge for doing Lien searches (for mortgage brokers). Some cities even have an tiered
approached, as MANY mortgage companies are calling or emailing or faxing their requests to Finance
(and to us sometimes) and asking for an immediate response, therefore, they would have to pay a higher
fee for a response needed say within 3 hours, and from then on the price goes down. Simple concept.
It seems that a City dos not benefit in any way to give this information out and yet, Michelle and her
staff are have to search their financial records asap to get a response to a for profit company who is
waiting until just before a closing, when I am sure Michelle and her staff have many other pressing
matters that they are responsible for.
From what I could find out, Oviedo and Sanford have such an Ordinance/Policy and have been doing
this. I heard that Casselberry was looking into doing this also. I do not know about the others but n
it
may be something to check into and pursue? Although a small new revenue source, it would still be
incoming revenues for our City.
Thank you,
