REQUEST:
The Police Department requests the Commission accept the 2016 Florida Department of
Law Enforcement JAG grant in the amount of $15, 501 and to authorize the City Manager
and Mayor to execute all required documentation related to this grant acceptance.
SYNOPSIS:
This year, the Police Department applied for grant assistance through the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement - JAG Program to fund the purchase of eleven Tasers,
accessories, training and equipment to outfit our officers with the newest technology in
Electronic Control Devices (ECD's) . The total amount requested was $15,501. The police
department was selected to receive the grant in the amount of $15,501 for the purchase of
the new ECD's and we now request the Commission approve the acceptance of the grant
and allow the City Manager and Mayor to execute all required documentation related to this
grant acceptance.
CONSIDERATIONS:
In August 2016, the Police Department was notified that we were selected to receive a
grant award through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement JAG Program for
$15,501. A application was completed outlining how the requested funds would be utilized
prior to the funds being awarded. The police department will use the funds to
purchase eleven Tasers, accessories, training and equipment to outfit our officers with the
newest technology in Electronic Control Devices (ECD's).
On November 9th, 2016, the police department received notice from the Florida Department

We request to utilize Taser International to purchase this equipment for they are the sole
source vendor for Taser Electronic Control Devices and currently provide the Winter
Springs Police Department services on our existing equipment.
FISCAL IMPACT:
These grant revenues and related expenditures were not included in the FY 2016 Police
Department budget request pending a decision on the award from FDLE. The budget was
already approved prior to this grant being awarded. The Taser's and associated
equipment will cost $15,501.00 and this expense will be reimbursed through the
grant; therefore, there is net -zero impact to the 2016 budget relative to this agenda item.
