HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016 06 13 Consent 301 Designation of Voting Delegate for the 2016 Florida League of Cities Annual ConferenceCOMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 301 June 13, 2016 Regular Meeting REQUEST: Informational Consent X Public Hearings Regular KS City Manager Department The City Manager is requesting that the City Commission confirm Mayor Charles Lacey as the City's "Voting Delegate" and Deputy Mayor Jean Hovey as the Alternate Voting Delegate (if needed) for the upcoming August 2016 Florida League of Cities Annual Conference. SYNOPSIS: The Florida League of Cities has requested individual to represent their Municipality Conference, this coming August 2016. CONSIDERATIONS: that each member municipality designate an at the Florida League of Cities Annual The 90th Florida League of Cities Annual Conference is scheduled for August 18 - 20, 2016. A formal request from the Executive Director of the Florida League of Cities, Mr. Michael Sittig has been received, which requests that each member Municipality designate a City representative as their "Voting Delegate" for the 90th Florida League of Cities Annual Conference. The City Manager is suggesting that the City Commission confirm that Mayor Charles Lacey would serve as the City's "Voting Delegate" at the upcoming August 2016 Florida League of Cities Annual Conference; and should an Alternate be needed, that Deputy Mayor Jean Hovey be approved to serve as Alternate. Consent 301 PAGE 1 OF 2 - June 13, 2016 FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this Agenda Item. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney /Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at six (6) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. RECOMMENDATION: The City Manager recommends that the City Commission consider the information in this Agenda Item and approve Mayor Charles Lacey as the Voting Delegate at the August 2016 Florida League of Cities Annual Conference representing the City of Winter Springs, and that Deputy Mayor Jean Hovey also be approved to serve as Alternate. Upon confirmation of the approval of this Agenda Item, the attached documentation (as shown in this Agenda Item) would be completed and submitted to the Florida League of Cities. The theme for this year's conference is Florida Cities: United & Strong, which will provide valuable educational opportunities to help Florida's municipal officials serve their citizenry more effectively. It is important that each municipality designate one official to be the voting delegate. Election of League leadership and adoption of resolutions are undertaken during the business meeting. One official from each municipality will make decisions that determine the direction of the League. In accordance with the League's by -laws, each municipality's vote is determined by population, and the League will use the Estimates of Population from the University of Florida for 2015. Conference registration materials will be sent to each municipality in the month of June. Materials will also be posted on -line. Call us if you need additional copies. League By -Laws requires that each municipality select one person to serve as the municipalities voting delegate. Municipalities do not need to adopt a resolution to designate a voting delegate. Please fill out this form and return it to the League office so that your voting delegate may be properly identified.
