HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013 12 09 Informational 201 Senior Transportation Services Update COMMISSION AGENDA Informational X Consent ITEM 201 public Hearings g Regular December 09, 2013 KS CC Regular Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is providing the Commission with an update on Senior Transportation Services provided by Lynx over the past year. SYNOPSIS: On December 10, 2012, the Commission authorized the City to enter into a contract with Lynx for Senior Transportation services for Winter Springs residents. This represented utilization of a new vendor for this service. At that time, staff indicated to the Commission that it would evaluate the success of this contract over the following year and report back to the Commission on such. CONSIDERATIONS: Key points: • The City has offered transportation services to our seniors for 11 years. • This service is offered only to Winter Springs residents. • In 2012 the Senior Transportation contract cost was $28,511, for service to an average of 10 seniors per day. • Effective January 2013, the City changed vendors to Lynx for this service. • The new Lynx contract annual cost is $15,770, serving an average of 10-12 seniors per day. • We solicited feedback from our seniors relative to the service provided by Lynx. • That feedback indicated that the pick & delivery window has functioned well and resulted in no problems for our seniors. • Overall, feedback on the service provided by Lynx has been positive. • Staff will continue to evaluate this service on an on-going basis. Informational 201 PAGE 1 OF 2- December 09,2013 FISCAL IMPACT: This service strategy resulted in savings of$12,741 for 2013. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals.
