These Grant Funds would be utilized for the purchase and implementation of the infrastructure that will allow for "target hardening" utilizing video cameras on our water treatment plants, starting with Water Plant One on Northern Way. SYNOPSIS: The Police Department applied for and was awarded this Grant through Homeland Security. The Grant is for cameras and the infrastructure to support their use in crime prevention through the use of technology. The total amount of the award is $84,171.00 and the police department now requests the Commission accept the grant. There are no matching funds required for the City to receive this grant. CONSIDERATIONS: In September 2013, the Police Department was notified that we were selected to receive a grant award through Homeland Security in the amount of$84,171.00. The purpose of applying for this grant is to establish an infrastructure to provide proactive crime prevention through the use of technology by using security cameras throughout the city for added safety and security on city properties. FISCAL IMPACT: There is a net zero impact to the FY 2014 budget. Consent 300 PAGE 1 OF 2-October 28,2013 COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. RECOMMENDATION: The Police Department recommends the Commission accept a Homeland Security Federal Domestic Assistance Grant in the amount of $84,171.00 for the purchase and implementation of the infrastructure that will allow for "target hardening" utilizing video cameras on our water treatment plants, starting with Water Plant One on Northern Way.
