HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013 03 11 Informational 101 Spring Family FestivalCOMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 101 March 11, 2013 Regular Meeting Informational X Consent Public Hearings Regular KS CC City Manager Department REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department wishes to inform the City Commission about the planning efforts of the 2013 Spring Family Festival. SYNOPSIS: The 2013 Spring Family Festival event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 16, from 5:OOpm — 9:OOpm in the Winter Springs Town Center. Family activities will include community groups with live music and singing from the entertainment stage, kids games, balloon artist, face painting, mini -car show, food & business vendors. CONSIDERATIONS: • In 2010, the City Commission directed the Parks and Recreation Department to develop a Spring Community Event located in the town center that is similar to our Fall Hometown Harvest. • The inaugural Spring Family Festival in 2012 unfortunately ended early due to inclement weather. • We have collaborated with local businesses, community groups and local schools to brings kids and families out to celebrate the start of Spring. • This yeas, we have added a special car show to our event. • The Parks and Recreation department has met regularly with the Internal Command Structure (ICS) Special Events committee to discuss ideas and plans for the event. • The Parks and Recreation Department has raised all necessary funds for the event Informational 101 PAGE 1 OF 2 - March 11, 2013 through Sponsorships, Vendor Fees, and donations. FISCAL IMPACT: All funds necessary to support our event were raised through sponsorships, vendor fees & donations. No City tax dollars will be used for the event, other than for approved public safety costs. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney /Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations /Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. We will advertise the spring event via established distribution channels. RECOMMENDATION: Staff requests the City Commission receive and review the information provided in this Agenda Item.
