HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 08 13 Informational 101 Character Counts Summer Camp Awards COMMISSION AGENDA     Informational X Consent ITEM101 Public Hearings Regular       August 13, 2012KSCC Regular MeetingCity ManagerDepartment         REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department wishes to provide the City Commission information about Camp Sunshine Summer Camp Character Counts Awards.   SYNOPSIS: The purpose of this item is to provide the City Commission with information about the Camp Sunshine Summer Camp Character Counts Awards, recognizing specific campers in the Camp Sunshine Summer Camp program for outstanding character traits. CONSIDERATIONS: The Parks and Recreation team wanted to recognize specific campers in the Camp  Sunshine Summer Camp program for outstanding character traits. Each week, a Camp Sunshine camper was selected to receive a “Character Counts”  Award based on a different character trait that was chosen each week. The nine traits were: Courage, Integrity, Kindness, Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility, Self Discipline, Cleanliness and Forgiveness. The camper chosen was given a certificate, tie die t-shirt and a gift card to a local  sponsoring business. Sponsoring business for the first year of the Character Counts Program were Kee Wee  Entertainment, Brusters Ice Cream of Winter Springs, and Chic-Fil-A of Winter Springs. FISCAL IMPACT: None. Informational 101 PAGE 1 OF 2 - August 13, 2012 COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City’s Website, LaserFiche, and the City’s Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City’s Website, LaserFiche, and the City’s Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner’s Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals.   RECOMMENDATION: Staff requests the City Commission receive and review the information provided in this Agenda Item.
