HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 06 25 Informational 101 Distinguished Budget Award COMMISSION AGENDA     Informational X Consent ITEM101 Public Hearings Regular       June 25, 2012KSSB Regular MeetingCity ManagerDepartment         REQUEST: The Finance Department and the City Manager are pleased to announce that the City of Winter Springs has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its FY 2012 Budget document.   SYNOPSIS: The purpose of this Agenda item is to announce that the City has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2012 Budget document. CONSIDERATIONS: Regarding the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award program, the Government Finance Officer's Association (GFOA) has compiled an extensive set of criteria which distinguish a budget as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device.  Documents submitted to the Budget Award Program are reviewed by select members of the GFOA professional staff and by outside reviewers with experience in public-sector budgeting.  To receive the award, the document must be rated either proficient or outstanding in all four categories, as well as the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories.  It is an honor to convey that the City was notified in May 2012 that we were fifthconsecutive year awarded the designation for the .  The budget document as submitted to GFOA is available on the City’s website.   http://www.winterspringsfl.org/EN/web/find/codes/DocsFormsPubs/43915/43924/FY2011.h tm   When the 2013 budget has been completed, the budget document will once again be Informational 101 PAGE 1 OF 2 - June 25, 2012 submitted for the award with the expectation that it will continue to conform to program requirements. FISCAL IMPACT: The award program application fee for the Distinguished Budget Award is approximately $350.  This cost is routinely budgeted in Finance and Administrative Services (1300 division).  COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City’s Website, LaserFiche, and the City’s Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City’s Website, LaserFiche, and the City’s Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner’s Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals.   RECOMMENDATION: Staff requests the City Commission receive and review the information provided in this Agenda Item.
