HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 04 23 Consent 204 Resolution 2012-13 Bill Nelson Retirement COMMISSION AGENDA     Informational Consent X ITEM204 Public Hearings Regular       April 23, 2012KSKL Regular MeetingCity ManagerDepartment         REQUEST: The Utility/Public Works Department requests that the City Commission approve Resolution Number 2012-13 recognizing the retirement of Public Works Department employee Bill Nelson   SYNOPSIS: The City Commission is very appreciative of all of the employees who faithfully serve the citizens and City Commission of Winter Springs.  For long-serving employees, the City Commission has expressed their interest in presenting such employees with a Resolution at a City Commission meeting.  In such cases, a Resolution is submitted to the City Commission on the Consent Agenda for approval.  Upon approval by the City Commission, the applicable employee is either presented with the Resolution at the same City Commission meeting during “Awards and Presentations” or attends a future City Commission meeting to receive their Resolution. CONSIDERATIONS: Public Works Department employee Bill Nelson began his career with the City of Winter Springs on January 25, 1996 as a Fleet Mechanic I and advanced during his 16 year career to Fleet Mechanic II.  Mr. Nelson's last day with the City will be April 27, 2012.  Resolution Number 2012-13 is being submitted during the Consent Agenda of this Meeting for your Approval.  Then, during the Awards and Presentations section of this Regular Meeting, Resolution 2012-13 will be presented to Bill Nelson in honor of his 16 years of service to the City of Winter Springs.     Consent 204 PAGE 1 OF 2 - April 23, 2012 FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact if Resolution Number 2012-13 is approved . COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City’s Website, LaserFiche, and the City’s Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City’s Website, LaserFiche, and the City’s Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner’s Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals.   RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve Resolution Number 2012-13 in honor of Public Works Department employee Bill Nelson and his 16 years of dedicated service to the City of Winter Springs. 'WHEREAS, BILL NELSON; began his career in engine maintenance by enlisting in the Air Force in 1968 where he ultimately was responsible for coordinating the daily maintenance of F -4 Phantom jets; and WHEREAS, BILL NELSON joined the City of Winter Springs on January 25, 1996 as a Fleet Mechanic I in the Public Works Department where he has since been an instrumental team member in the maintenance of the City's Vehicles and Equipment; and WHEREAS, BILL NELSON was promoted to Fleet Mechanic II in 2009 by achieving six certifications in Automotive Service Excellence; and WHEREAS, BILL NELSON has provided the residents of Winter Springs with 16 years of dedicated and distinguished service in the Winter Springs Public Works Department. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida as follows: SECTION I — That the Mayor and Commission, City Manager, and Staff of the City of Winter Springs upon the occasion of BILL NELSON'S retirement takes great pleasure to recognize and honor him for his uncommon level of distinguished service to the residents of Winter Springs through his employment in the Winter Springs Public Works Department. SECTION II — That this Resolution commending the services of BILL NELSON be recorded upon the official Public Records and Minutes of this City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida. SECTION III — That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to BILL NELSON with our sincerest thanks for his many contributions.
