CONSIDERATIONS: Potable Water   Potable water use for 2011 totaled 1,385,820,000 gallons, which is a reduction of 10,170,000 gallons (0.7%) from 2010.  Groundwater withdrawals were at the lowest level since 2002.  According to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association, Central Florida is in a moderate drought period.  We received 48.0 inches of rainfall in 2011, which is 3.6 inches less rainfall than last year and 6 inches below average rainfall levels.  The 2011 water use was also 304 million gallons or 18% below the St. Johns River Water Management District Consumptive Use Permit allowance of 1,689,000 gallons.  Factors contributing to the decreased water demand may include the economy, empty households, recent water rate increases, and a full time water conservation coordinator.   Informational 101 PAGE 1 OF 3 - January 23, 2012   Reclaimed Water:   Reclaimed water produced for 2011 totaled 687,784,000 gallons.  Of this, 536,846,000 gallons were distributed for the purpose of commercial and residential irrigation and 150,938,000 gallons were disposed of at the percolation ponds and/or spray fields.  In 2011, more reclaimed water was distributed to residents rather than disposed than in the past five years.     FISCAL IMPACT: The Water Conservation Coordinator monitors high consumption customers to assist in managing their usage and lowering their bills through conservation.  In addition, low or no consumption meters are identified and replaced when needed to ensure usage is accurately measured.    Informational 101 PAGE 2 OF 3 - January 23, 2012 COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City’s Website, LaserFiche, and the City’s Server.
