HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018 09 10 Consent 302 Resolution for Retirement of Geoff MarbesCOMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 302 Informational Consent X Public Hearings Regular September 10, 2018 KS LR Regular Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: The Utility/Public Works Department requests that the City Commission approve Resolution Number 2018-17 recognizing the retirement and 18 years of dedicated service of Utilities Department employee Geoff Marbes. SYNOPSIS: The City Commission is very appreciative of all the employees who faithfully serve the citizens and City Commission of Winter Springs. For long -serving employees, the City Commission has expressed their interest in presenting such employees with a Resolution at a City Commission meeting. In such situations, a Resolution is submitted to the City Commission on the Consent Agenda for approval. Upon approval by the City Commission, the applicable employee is invited to attend a future City Commission meeting when during "Awards and Presentations", the employee will be presented with a Resolution that has been approved by the City Commission. Resolution Number 2018-17 which recognizes the service and retirement of Utilities Department employee Geoff Marbes is being provided for the City Commission to review and hopefully approve. CONSIDERATIONS: Geoff Marbes joined the City of Winter Springs as a Maintenance Worker on September 30, 1999 in the Parks & Recreation Department and was promoted the following Consent 302 PAGE 1 OF 2 - September 10, 2018 year to Park Mechanic. In 2006, he was transferred to the Utilities Department and promoted to Electronics/Instrumentation Technician. In 2013, Geoff was promoted to Team Leader, where he has been responsible for the daily operations of the City's wastewater lift stations and making repairs to the water and wastewater treatment facilities. During his tenure, Geoff collaborated closely with Police, Community Development, and Parks & Recreation Departments in assisting with electrical repair needs and Special Events. Geoff also assisted with Hurricane staffing during the 2004/2005 season and more recently with Hurricanes Matthew and Irma. Resolution 2018-17 is being submitted as a Consent Agenda Item for City Commission approval. Once this Resolution has been approved, Geoff Marbes will attend an upcoming City Commission meeting, when under "Awards and Presentations", Resolution 2018-17 will be presented to Geoff recognizing his 18 years of valued service to the City of Winter Springs. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact if Resolution Number 2018-17 is approved. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at six (6) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Commission approve Resolution Number 2018-17 in honor of employee Geoff Marbes for his 18 years of dedicated service to the City of Winter Springs. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida as follows: ISECTION I — Upon the occasion of GEOFF MARBES' retirement, the Mayor and Commission, City Manager, and Staff of the City of Winter Springs wish to recognize and honor him for his distinguished service to the residents of Winter Springs through his employment in the Winter Springs Utilities and Parks and Recreation Departments. SECTION II — That this Resolution commending the services of GEOFF MARBES be recorded upon the official Public Records and Minutes of this City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida. SECTION III — That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to GEOFF MARBES with our sincerest thanks for his many contributions.
