HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018 07 09 Consent 308 Designating a Voting Delegate for the August 2018 Florida League of Cities Annual ConferenceCOMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 308 Informational Consent X Public Hearings Regular July 09, 2018 SB SB Regular Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: Office of the City Manager is requesting that the City Commission confirm Mayor Charles Lacey as the City's Voting Delegate and the City's Deputy Mayor as the Alternate Voting Delegate (if needed) for the upcoming August 2018 Florida League of Cities Annual Conference. SYNOPSIS: The Florida League of Cities has requested that each member municipality designate an individual to represent their Municipality at the upcoming Florida League of Cities Annual Conference, which is being held from August 16-18, 2018 in Hollywood, Florida. CONSIDERATIONS: The 92nd Florida League of Cities Annual Conference is scheduled to be held from August 16-18, 2018. A formal request from the Executive Director of the Florida League of Cities, Mr. Michael Sittig has been received, which requests that each member Municipality designate a City representative as their "Voting Delegate" for the 92nd Florida League of Cities Annual Conference. The City Manager is suggesting that the City Commission confirm that Mayor Charles Lacey would serve as the City's Voting Delegate at the upcoming August 2018 Florida League of Cities Annual Conference; and should an Alternate be needed, that the City's Deputy Mayor be approved to serve as Alternate. Consent 308 PAGE 1 OF 2 - July 09, 2018 FISCAL IMPACT: (There is no fiscal impact associated with this Agenda Item.' COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at six (6) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Commission approve Mayor Charles Lacey as the City of Winter Springs' Voting Delegate for the August 2018 Florida League of Cities Annual Conference, representing the City of Winter Springs, and that the City's Deputy Mayor also be approved to serve as Alternate Voting Delegate. Upon approval of this Agenda Item, the attached required documentation would be completed and submitted to the Florida League of Cities. This conference will provide valuable educational opportunities to help Florida's municipal officials serve their citizenry more effectively. It is important that each municipality designate one official to be the voting delegate. Election of League leadership and adoption of resolutions are undertaken during the business meeting. One official from each municipality will make decisions that determine the direction of the League. In accordance with the League's by-laws, each municipality's vote is determined by population, and the League will use the Estimates of Population from the University of Florida for 2017. Conference registration materials will be sent to each municipality in the month of June. Materials will also be posted on-line. Call us if you need additional copies. Voting delegate forms must be received by the League no later than August 10, 2018. League By -Laws requires that each municipality select one person to serve as the municipalities voting delegate. Municipalities do not need to adopt a resolution to designate a voting delegate.
