HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018 07 09 Regular 501 Deputy Mayor AppointmentCOMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 501 Informational Consent Public Hearings Regular X July 09, 2018 KS ALLL Regular Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: The City Clerk requests that the City Commission consider nominating a Deputy Mayor to complete the term that Deputy Mayor Cade Resnick held before he resigned. SYNOPSIS: Currently, there is no Deputy Mayor, as Commissioner Cade Resnick held that title prior to his recent resignation. The City Commission last selected a Deputy Mayor at the first Regular Meeting of December, as has been done in past years. The Deputy Mayor represents the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, and attends any meetings/events whenever the current mayor cannot. The Deputy Mayor position is defined under the City's Charter, Section 4.05. Mayor. CONSIDERATIONS: Section 4.05. Mayor. of the City of Winter Springs' Charter states, "The city commission shall elect from among its members a deputy mayor who shall act as mayor during the absence or disability of the mayor. However, if a vacancy occurs in the position of mayor, the vacancy shall be filled in accordance with section 4.08(c) of this Charter." Deputy Mayor Cade Resnick resigned on June 8, 2018 with his resignation to be effective June 12, 2018. Late last year, at the Regular Meeting of December 11, 2017, Commissioner Cade Resnick was Nominated and Approved to serve as Deputy Mayor. Regular 501 PAGE 1 OF 3 - July 09, 2018 In November 2016, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Meeting of November 21, 2016 and Commissioner Pam Carroll was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. In October 2016, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of October 10, 2016 and Commissioner Joanne M. Krebs was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor (until her final Term of Office ended which was in November 2016). In December 2015, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 14, 2015 and Commissioner Jean Hovey was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. In December 2014, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 8, 2014, and Commissioner Joanne M. Krebs was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. In December 2013, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 9, 2013, and Commissioner Rick Brown was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. In December 2012, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 10, 2012, and Commissioner Cade Resnick was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. In December 2011, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 12, 2011, and Commissioner Gary Bonner was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. Then, during the year 2012, Deputy Mayor Gary Bonner resigned as a member of the City Commission; and, at the July 23, 2012 City Commission Regular Meeting Commissioner Joanne M. Krebs was Nominated and Approved to serve as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of that year/term. The Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 13, 2010, and Commissioner Jean Hovey was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. FISCAL IMPACT: Associated fiscal impact would be minor, and may include new name badges, business cards, etc. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional Regular 501 PAGE 2 OF 3 - July 09, 2018 copies available for the General Public, and posted at six (6) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. Mayor Lacey and the City Commission are aware of this vacancy. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Commission Appoint a Member of the City Commission to serve as the next Deputy Mayor until November/December 2018. ATTACHMENTS: None.
