HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016 11 21 Consent 300 Acceptance of the 2016 JAG Grant FundsCOMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 300 Informational Consent X Public Hearings Regular November 21, 2016 KS KB Special Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: The Police Department requests the Commission accept the 2016 Florida Department of Law Enforcement JAG grant in the amount of $15, 501 and to authorize the City Manager and Mayor to execute all required documentation related to this grant acceptance. SYNOPSIS: This year, the Police Department applied for grant assistance through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement - JAG Program to fund the purchase of eleven Tasers, accessories, training and equipment to outfit our officers with the newest technology in Electronic Control Devices (ECD's) . The total amount requested was $15,501. The police department was selected to receive the grant in the amount of $15,501 for the purchase of the new ECD's and we now request the Commission approve the acceptance of the grant and allow the City Manager and Mayor to execute all required documentation related to this grant acceptance. CONSIDERATIONS: In August 2016, the Police Department was notified that we were selected to receive a grant award through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement JAG Program for $15,501. A application was completed outlining how the requested funds would be utilized prior to the funds being awarded. The police department will use the funds to purchase eleven Tasers, accessories, training and equipment to outfit our officers with the newest technology in Electronic Control Devices (ECD's). On November 9th, 2016, the police department received notice from the Florida Department Law Enforcement Office of Criminal Justice Grants that the grant was awarded and Consent 300 PAGE 1 OF 2 - November 21, 2016 available between 10/01/2016 and 09/30/2017. We request to utilize Taser International to purchase this equipment for they are the sole source vendor for Taser Electronic Control Devices and currently provide the Winter Springs Police Department services on our existing equipment. FISCAL IMPACT: These grant revenues and related expenditures were not included in the FY 2016 Police Department budget request pending a decision on the award from FDLE. The budget was already approved prior to this grant being awarded. The Taser's and associated equipment will cost $15,501.00 and this expense will be reimbursed through the grant; therefore, there is net -zero impact to the 2016 budget relative to this agenda item. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney /Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at six (6) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Commission approve the acceptance of the 2016 Florida Department of Law Enforcement JAG Program grant in the amount of $15,501 to purchase Tasers and related equipment/items from Taser International and authorize the City Manager and Mayor to execute any and all associated documents.
