REQUEST:
Public Works Department Requests the City Commission Receive Information Regarding
the Changes to the Recycling Pickup Schedule.
SYNOPSIS:
The growth in the number of the City's residential solid waste customers over the last ten
years has necessitated modifying the recycling schedule by the addition of a Wednesday
recycling pickup day and shifting some of the customers currently provided recycling
service on Tuesday and Friday to Wednesday.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Waste Pro currently provides recycling pickup once per week to each City resident on either
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday and this schedule has remained unchanged since
initiated in 2006. The main residential growth over the last ten years has primarily occurred
in the Town Center area which has impacted the length and volume of the Tuesday and
Friday routes. Complaints about recycling pickups occurring beyond the 5 PM pickup time
on these two routes are becoming more frequent and in order to address these concerns,
Waste Pro will be adding a Wednesday recycling pickup day.
Some customers who currently receive Tuesday and Friday service will be moved to
Wednesday. The Tuesday service areas which will be moved to Wednesday are;

The Friday services areas which will be moved to Wednesday are;
Orange Avenue Jesup's Landing Tuskawilla Trace
St. Johns Landing Winter Springs Village Avery Park
Milky Way
The recycling map on the Waste Pro website:

will be updated to reflect these changes. A draft copy of the map is attached.
The change will be made the week of August 17th. Door hangers will be distributed to
every effected home by Waste Pro. In addition, applicable HOA's will be contacted and
advised of the changes and notices will be available at the Utility Billing counter.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no additional cost to adding the Wednesday recycling pickup. The change will
allow Waste Pro to make more efficient use of their equipment and personnel and improve
customer service by completing the routes within the designated times.
COMMUNICATION EFFORTS:
This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission,
City Manager, City Attorney /Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and
the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the
respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals
noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's
Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have
requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives
on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This
information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional
copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the
City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff
is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested
individuals.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff requests the City Commission receive and review the information provided in this
Agenda Item.
