HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015 02 09 Consent 303 Stormwater Backhoe/Loader PurchaseCOMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 303 Informational Consent X Public Hearings Regular February 09, 2015 KS KL Regular Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: Public Works Department/Stormwater Division Requesting Approval to Piggyback Purchase a John Deere Backhoe/Loader from Nortrax at a Net Cost of $60,838.80. SYNOPSIS: The Stormwater Division is requesting to replace the existing 1996 backhoe by trading it in at a net cost of $60,838.80. The cost for the new backhoe with the options that are needed totals $80,838.80 and the trade in value for existing backhoe is $20,000. CONSIDERATIONS: This agenda item is needed to replace the existing 1996 stormwater backhoe which is used for the repair and maintenance of the stormwater conveyance and collection system. The existing backhoe repair costs have risen to $5K annually with several major issues currently pending. The Florida Sheriffs Association annually conducts bids for equipment and vehicles. Bid #14 -12 -0904, Specification #22 is for a 4X4 Loader Backhoe with Canopy. Utilizing this bid, the cost for the backhoe with the options that are needed totals $80,838.80 for the John Deere 41OK EP. The John Deere local rep, Nortrax, offered a trade in value of $20,000 for the existing 1996 Caterpillar backhoe. Two other vendors, Ring Power Corp. (Caterpillar rep) and JCB were contacted for trade in value of our existing backhoe and they offered $17,000 and $13,600, respectively. Consent 303 PAGE 1 OF 2 - February 09, 2015 The net cost for the backhoe after trade in is $60,383.80. The John Deere 410K EP is an American made backhoe /loader. FISCAL IMPACT: This Backhoe was budgeted in the Stormwater Utility budget at a cost of $80,000. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney /Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. RECOMMENDATION: Public Works Department/Stormwater Division Recommends the City Commission Approve the Purchase a John Deere 410K EP Backhoe/Loader from Nortrax of Orlando at a Net Cost of $60,838.80 payable from the Stormwater Utility Fund.
