HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014 12 08 Regular 603 Workshop Date for Economic Development Discussions COMMISSION AGENDA Informational Consent ITEM 603 Public Hearin s g Regular X December 08, 2014 KS RS Regular Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: Staff requests that the City Commission set a date for a workshop session to discuss current land development obj ectives and the direction of economic development strategies moving forward. SYNOPSIS: As part of the City Commission discussions at the Special Meeting of November 17, 2014, there was a vote by the Commissioners to hold a workshop for the purpose of having discussions with staff about current development trends and projects as well as the economic strategies to move the City forward. Staff is requesting a date for this workshop and suggests that the date be February 16, 2015 or later. CONSIDERATIONS: Pursuant to the City Commission's directive given on November 17, 2014, staff will prepare for a workshop to provide information to and seek direction from the City Commission related to current development trends and the direction of economic development efforts. In addition, staff will seek direction on certain aspects of existing code language and discuss with the Commission certain changes to the code that staff has identified that will provide a better "tool" for facilitating future development efforts. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no direct fiscal impact associated with this agenda item. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: Regular 603 PAGE 1 OF 2- December 08,2014 This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. RECOMMENDATION: Staff is requesting that the City Commission set a date for a workshop to discuss development trends and economic development direction as well as possible code modifications.
