March 28, 2011 Authorization Regular Meeting REQUEST: The Utility/Public Works Department requests that the City Commission approve Resolution Number 2011-09 recognizing the retirement of Utility Department employee Don Cheney SYNOPSIS: The City Commission is very appreciative of all of the employees who faithfully serve the citizens and City Commission of Winter Springs. For long-serving employees, the City Commission has expressed their interest in presenting such employees with a Resolution at a City Commission meeting. In such cases, a Resolution is submitted to the City Commission on the Consent Agenda for approval. Upon approval by the City Commission, the applicable employee is either presented with the Resolution at the same City Commission meeting during “Awards and Presentations” or attends a future City . Commission meeting to receive their Resolution CONSIDERATIONS: Utility Department Superintendent Don Cheney began his career with the City of Winter Springs on October 31, 1985 as a Maintenance Worker and rose through the years to the position of Utility Superintendent. Mr. Cheney’s last day with the City will be March 31, 2011. Resolution Number 2011-09 is being submitted during the Consent Agenda of this Meeting for your Approval. Then, during the Awards and Presentation section of this Regular Meeting, Resolution 2011-09 will be presented to Don Cheney in honor of his 25 years of service to the City of Winter Springs. 2011 03 28 Consent 201 Resolution 2011-09 Cheney Retirement REGULAR MEETING – MARCH 28, 2011 CONSENT AGENDA ITEM 201 PAGE 2 OF 2 FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact if Resolution Number 2011-09 is approved. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission; City Manager; City Attorney/Staff; placed in Press Packets; placed in the City Hall (Lobby) City Commission Meeting binder; and is available on the City’s Website, LaserFiche, and the City’s Server. Additionally, information related to this Agenda Item has been sent to media/press representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, all Homeowner’s Associations on file with the City, all individuals who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Department Directors; and also posted outside City Hall; posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the general public; and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve Resolution Number 2011-09 in honor of Utility Department employee Don Cheney and his 25 years of dedicated service to the City of Winter Springs. WHEREAS, DON CHENEY has provided the residents of Winter Springs with 25 years of dedicated and distinguished service in the Winter Springs Utility Department; and WHEREAS, DON CHENEY joined the City of Winter Springs on October 31, 1985 as a Utility Maintenance Worker at the wastewater treatment plants; and WHEREAS, DON CHENEY was promoted through the years to Maintenance Mechanic, Backflow Coordinator, and Utility Inspector, based on his skills and aptitude; and WHEREAS, DON CHENEY has served the last 11 years as the Utility Superintendent overseeing the maintenance and repairs of the water distribution system, wastewater collection and pumping system, and reclaimed water distribution which operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and regularly require his supervisory knowledge and experience after hours and on weekends. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida as follows: SECTION I - That the Mayor and Commission, City Manager, and Staff of the City of Winter Springs upon the occasion of DON CHENEY'S retirement takes great pleasure to recognize and honor him for his uncommon level of distinguished service to the residents of Winter Springs through his employment in the Winter Springs Utility Department. SECTION II - That this Resolution commending the services of DON CHENEY be recorded upon the official Public Records and Minutes of this City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida. SECTION III - That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to DON CHENEY with our sincerest thanks for his many contributions.
