REQUEST: Utility Department Informing the City Commission on the Potable Water
Usage for 2010.
SYNOPSIS: The purpose of this agenda item is to inform the City Commission on the potable
water usage for calendar year 2010 relative to our Consumptive Use Permit (CUP).
CONSIDERATIONS:
Potable water usage for 2010 was 1,395,999,000 gallons or about 109 gallons per
person per day. Even with the slightly below average annual rainfall of 51.6 inches for
2010, usage was 10% below 2009. The groundwater withdrawals were at the lowest level
seen since 2003.
Factors that could be contributing to the this drop include; a very wet spring of
2010, the economy, empty households, recent water rate increases, a full time water
conservation coordinator, and better adherence to the Districts 2010 irrigation restrictions.
