Authorization REQUEST: The City Clerk respectfully requests that the City Commission consider nominating the next Deputy Mayor as stipulated in the Charter of the City of Winter Springs, consistent with actions in the past. SYNOPSIS: Traditionally, the City Commission has selected a Deputy Mayor at the first Regular Meeting of December, as has been done in past years. The Deputy Mayor represents the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, and attends any meetings /events whenever the current mayor cannot. The Deputy Mayor position is defined under the City's Charter, Section 4.05. Mayor. CONSIDERATIONS: Section 4.05. Mayor. of the City of Winter Springs' Charter states, "The city commission shall elect from among its members a deputy mayor who shall act as mayor during the absence or disability of the mayor." CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA CITY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING - DECEMBER 13. 2010 REGULAR AGENDA ITEM "604" PAGE 2 OF 2 Last year. the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 14, 2009, and Commissioner Rick Brown was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. At the Regular Meeting of December 8, 2008, Commissioner Joanne M. Krebs was Nominated and Approved to serve as Deputy Mayor. In 2007, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 10, 2007, and Commissioner Donald A. Gilmore was Nominated and Ratified as Deputy Mayor. For the year 2006, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 11, 2006, and Commissioner Sally McGinnis was Nominated and Approved to serve as Deputy Mayor. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no specific fiscal impact to this Appointment. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission; City Manager; City Attorney /Staff; placed in Press Packets; placed in the City Hall (Lobby) City Commission Meeting binder; and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, information related to this Agenda Item has been sent to media/press representatives who have requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, all Homeowner's Associations on file with the City, all individuals who have requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, Department Directors; and also posted outside City Hall; posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the general public; and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. RECOMMENDATION: The City Commission is being requested to appoint a Member of the City Commission to serve as the next Deputy Mayor. ATTACHMENT: None.
