Authorization REQUEST: Utility Department Responding to the City Commission Request on the Recommended Standards for Fluoride. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to provide information to the City Commission as to the recommended fluoride levels in community water systems. CONSIDERA TIONS: The City Commission requested at the June 28th meeting what the recommended standards are for fluoride in community water systems. The standard most utilities use is 1.0 parts per million (ppm). According to the policy statement on the American Dental Association web page, "The Association supports the position that all communal water supplies that are below the optimum fluoride level recommended by the Us. Public Health Service (a range from 0.7- 1.2 parts per million) should be adjusted to an optimum level." The current natural levels of fluoride in the raw water supply of Winter Springs at East and West water plants are 0.438 ppm and 0.291 ppm, respectively. Regarding the grammatical corrections that were needed to the Consumer Confidence Report, unfortunately, the reports had already been printed and were ready for mailing. We will be sure to correct them for next years report. ATTACHMENTS: None COMMISSION ACTION:
