READ THE ENCLOSED INSERT "FYI" Purple Print On White Paper I am writing each Commissioner, suggest you consider doing so. I discussed the insert with Laurene Lyzen the author, publisher of the Highland Herald for more than 18 years, who attended the Commissioner's Meeting. Briefly, the Developer's Proposal was presented in a double negative format where a No vote means Approval. An old trick by devious politicians, discarded years ago about the time of the Ford Edsel. The 120 Low Income Apartments are actually subsidized housing with a track record of becoming urban blight over several years. There are already, not one but TWO Dollar Store within walking distance of the proposed site for a third. We do not need or want either in our area. The proposal was tabled to a future date. Before that time Commissioners should be reminded we live here 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Spend our time, money and efforts maintaining our neighborhood in a clean, pleasing and attractive appearance; homes appreciating in assessed and market values each year. Our best interests should be represented over those of an indifferent transitory developer whose only interest is to make big profits and run. The proposal should be reintroduced complete in clear, concise understandable language where a Yes Vote means Approval and a No means No Approval. Your neighbor, Joe McCormick FYI TO LET PEOPLE KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR CITY There are plans to have a Dollar Store built uext to Slteoah I on 434. This will involve a parking lot, lights etc. Do we want this hear our community? Also on May 27th at the Commission meeting 120 Low Income Apartments were voted on to be built on 434 between the Winter Springs Golf Course attd the Gulf Terrace Apartments. Do we want to see this in our neighborhood? The Commission has thirty days in which to tour other apartments that llavis Companies have built in other areas and then it will come back to the Commission whether they want or don't want it to be built. Please go to the Commission meetings and during resident input which is first on the agenda and state your feelings for or against. Yours truly went to the Cottttnissiott tneeting attd stated that Winter Springs has met their yuota on low housing apartments according to the Federal and State law, so why do we need more and asked all the Commissioners to support this request. A negative motion (not to have the Low Housing Apartments) was put on the floor by Commissioner Martinez and seconded by Commissioner Miller. The vote was as follows: Cotnmissioner McCleod No (to have the apartments) Commissioner McGinnis No (to have the apartments) Commissioner Martinez Yes (not to have the apartments) Commissioner Miller Yes (not to have the apartments) Commissioner Blake No (to have the apartments) Mayor John Bush was absent. Motion did trot pass with a majority wanting the Low Housing Apartments. The builder has to meet certain specifications so it still cart be voted on again. If you do or do not want the Low Housing Apartments in our area please speak up at the Commission Meeting or call City hall and get the email of all our Commissioners or mail a letter to them at City Hall stating you are for or against it. That way they will know how this end of town feels. How do they know if we don't contact them and let them know. Tuscawilla doesn't want it their area and (this is my own opinion) I don't want it near the Highlands. Our property values will definitely go down. Some people have stated they will sell their homes if this happens. Traffic will be heavier on Sheoah and Shepard also on 434. The Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of every month at 6:30pm. at City Hall. Resident input is at the beginning of the meeting.
