HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003 07 28 Informational C Irrigation Problem at the Winter Springs Oak Forest Entrance J ~ COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM c CONSENT INFORMATIONAL X PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR July 28, 2003 Meeting MGR ~ IDEPT //)/ Authorization REQUEST: Inform Commission of action by the Public Works Department regarding issues brought before the Commission by J()anne Krebs, 1002 Taproot Drive, Winter Springs, FL. PURPOSE: Resident Joanne Krebs of 1002 Taproot Drive brought before the Commission under Public Input (1) an irrigation problem at the Winter Springs Oak Forest entrance,(2) loose hinge bolts at the access gates to Oak Forest Lake and (3) the lack of landscape plantings north of Trotwood Boulevard on the west side of Tuskawilla Road. CONSIDERA TIONS: Issue 1 The Irrigation Division of the Utility Department has monitored the irrigation at this location and reprogrammed the remote control irrigation timer in an attempt to correct the system. The reprogramming did not correct the problem and the timer will have to be replaced. A work order has been issued for the replacement. Issue 2 The hinge nuts have been tightened previously but continue to loosen as the gate is utilized for access to maintain Oak Forest Lake water quality. A work order has been issued to the Stormwater Division of the Public Works Department to retighten and tack weld the nuts to prevent further loosening. Issue 3 Seminole County prepared landscaping plans for the improvements to Tuskawilla Road including the wall and the plans did not include landscaping on the right of way in front of the wall north of Trotwood Blvd other than 3 Crape Myrtles. In the right of way at this location is a drainage swale, underground utilities and site line limitations that could July 28, 2003 Informational Agenda Item C Page 2 be compromised by the placement of trees. The Public Works Department has however, placed additional trees north of Trotwood Blvd, in the right of~ay in areas that do not conflict with utilities, drainage or site line. The Urban Beautification Coordinator will bring to the Oak Forest Wall and Beautification Assessment District Advisory Board information regarding any possibility of landscape enhancements that may be achieved in the area concerned. FUNDING: The cost of replacement of the irrigation timer and potential landscape enhancements will funded through Oak Forest Maintenance Fund - Repair and Maintenance of Grounds - Line Code (191-54682). The repair of the Oak Forest Lake access gate will be funded by the Stormwater Division - Repair and Maintenance Stormwater Ponds - Line Code (130-54693). RECOMMENDATION: Complete work as requested through work order and report to Oak Forest Wall and Beautification Assessment District Advisory Board IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: The Public Works Department and Utility Department will affect repairs immediately.
