Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is notifying the City Commission of the status of the Florida Recreational Development Assistance Program Grant regarding the Central Winds Park Expansion. PURPOSE:' The purpose of this item is to update the City Commission on the status of the grant application. CONSIDERATIONS: · On August 12, 2002, the Commission approved the submission of a Florida Recreational Development Assistance Program Grant to the State of Florida, Department of Environmental Protection. · On February 24, 2003, City Staff received the project priority list (ranking) of all grant applications. · The City of Winter Springs; Central Winds Park Expansion Project, scored #19 out of 190 large projects. This ranking did qualify the city to receive funding il1 the amount of$ 200,000.00 in the next fiscal year. ~ . On July 8,2003, the Department of Environmental Protection notified staff that the City of Winter Springs has been approved for $ 200,000.00 for the Central Winds Park Expansion. · fucluding this grant, the city will have received a total of $ 950,000 in FRDAP State Grants over a 3- year period. 1 -. FUNDING: None required. RECOMMENDATION: None required. IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: August - Sept. 2003 Execution of Project Agreement and Implementation Workshop. April -'May 2004 Completion documentation submitted. . August - Sept. 2004 $ 200,000.00 funding received by the City of Winter Springs. The City of Winter Springs has been approved for $200,000, which is a grant for Cental Winds Park. A ceremonial check for your project is enclosed. We encourage a joint event with your legislative delegation and local elected officials. Your legislative delegation has been notified that your project was funded and that the ceremonial check was sent to you. A sample of the letter sent to legislators is enclosed. We suggest you coordinate with them for a dedication ceremony. /' To assist you with this grant, we will conduct a Grant Implementation Workshop. The workshop will be held at th~ Kissimmee Civic Center on August 6. Attendance is not mandatory but if you have not previously attended, we strongly encourage your participation.
