Authorization REGULAR 26. C. Community Development Department Presents A Request By mc Calhoun To Amend The Lighting Plan For The JDC Calhoun Town Center Site. (This Agenda Item Will Be Scheduled For The August 25, 2003 Agenda). 08/11/2003 16:53.FAX 18438496765 JAMES DORAN COMPANY l4J 002 .JAMES DORA.N CDMPANY ESTABLISHED 1 BB2 REAL. ESTATE INVESTMENT BANKERS August 11, 2003 Via Facsill1ih,~.& Ref!\llar Mail Ron McLemore City of Winter Springs 1126 East S.R. 434 Winter Springs, FL 32708 Re: 15 J rule and subsequent discussions Dear Ron: . I want to take this opportunity to write to you and the City Commissioners tq let you know my thoughts on the above referenced matter. As I am sure you would concur, although we agree on several "macro" planning issues, we still do not agree on the 15' rule. However, I would like to continue the dialogue that has been created. In that regard, I would like both fourselfand the City Commissioners to. strongly consider attending the upcoming Urban Land Institute Conference on September 11-12, 2003 in Reston, Virginia. (see attached information) This is a gathering of top experts on the cutting edge of urban planning. I feel this could be a great tool to further facilitate the dialogue that has been started. Therefore, if the City is still unwilling to abandon tbe i5' rule, I would suggest that at a minimum the City would extend the 30-day stay of the policy. James Doran Company has certainly acted in good faith and has not trj.ed to ''rush'' permits through. In fact, in tbe absence of any contact from the City, James Doran Company took the initiative to set up the meeting called for by th~ City Commission. James Doran Company has tried to make.stire that all tenants respect the Town Center Code and the spirit of the Town Center; we feel this will become apparent as tenants ap'p1y for permits. ill short, the permit applications will be ''trick.li~ in~' soon. It is my hope that reviews of.these permit applications will facilitate greater understanding, and more productive discussion on the 15' rule, .,., .
