HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004 01 12 Consent 206COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 206 January 12, 2004 Meeting CONSENT X INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR MGR /J- DEPT Authorization REQUEST: Fire Department Requesting Authorization for a Supplemental Appropriation of $157,000 from Medical Transport Fund balance for the Purchase of 1 (one) Rescue Truck by Piggybacking off of Florida Fire Chiefs Association, Florida Sheriff's Association & Florida Association of Counties Bid #03-04-0828. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Commission item is to request authorization for a supplemental appropriation of $157,000 from the Medical Transport Fund and to piggyback off of the Florida Fire Chief s Association, Florida Sheriff's Association & Florida Association of Counties, Bid #03-04-0828 with American LaFrance MedicMaster for the purchase of 1 (one) 2004 Freightliner M2, Type I Ambulance, 4x2 Medium Duty Rescue Truck for the Fire Department. CONSIDERATIONS: This Rescue Truck is needed as part of the fleet maintenance, replacement program and additional capacity for the Fire Department. The Florida Fire Chief s Association, Florida Sheriffs Association & Florida Association of Counties has already received bids for the 2004 Type I Ambulance being considered under Bid #03-04-0828. The vehicle requested for purchase is an American LaFrance MedicMaster 2004 Freightliner M2, Type I Ambulance, 4x2 Medium Duty Rescue Truck. This vehicles will replace the 1989 Ford F-350 Wheeled Coach Ambulance that serves as a reserve unit and will ultimately replace a frontline unit, a 2000 American LaFrance MedicMaster that will then become the reserve unit. The cost of the vehicle is not to exceed $157,000, and this replacement was not originally budgeted, but due to the unreliability of the existing backup unit the 1989 Ford F-350, the Fire Chief is requesting consideration in this matter. If this request is approved the Medical Transport Consent Agenda Item 206 January 12, 2004 Page 2 Fund balance carryover into fiscal year 2004/2005 will be approximately $243,000 provided the current budget is realized in terms of both revenues and expenses. FUNDING: The Rescue Truck purchase not exceeding $157,000 is requested to be funded from Medical Transport Fund balance that is projected to be $400,000 at the end of this fiscal year. Expenditure of the funds will occur within 90 to 180 days after approval. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that authorization for a Medical Transport Fund balance supplemental appropriation to the FY 2003/2004 budget be granted not exceeding $157,000 and request authorization to piggyback off of the Florida Fire Chief's Association, Florida Sheriff's Association & Florida Association of Counties Bid #03-04- 0828 with American LaFrance MedicMaster not exceeding $157,000 for the purchase of 1 (one) 2004 Freightliner M2, Type I Ambulance, 4x2 Medium Duty Rescue Trucks. IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: The delivery of vehicles will occur within the 180 days of order. ATTACHMENTS: None COMMISSION ACTION:
