REQUEST: Parks and Recreation Department requests the City Commission's approval for a Paw Park Fund raising event to be held at Central Winds Park in the passive area on Saturday, June 7, 2003. PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to obtain Commission approval for a Paw Park Fund Raising Event at Central Winds Park. CONSIDERATION: . The Winter Springs City Commission at the January 27,2003, Paw Park Workshop discussed the need for fund raising to differ costs. . The Winter Springs Paw Park advisory committee at its February 27,2003 meeting discussed conducting a fund raising event at Central Winds Park. . Central Winds Park has a departmental policy of No Dogs in the Park. However, a special event regarding dogs is permitable with commission approval. . There are no scheduled Little League games at Central Winds Park on June 7, 2003. . Funds raised are to be deposited in a special account with the City of Winter Springs. FUNDING: The Friends of Leash Optional Parks will pay the Central Winds Park Pavilion Rental fees. Two (2) Pavilions all day ($ 171.20) and also Event Liability Insurance. 1 RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the request for a Paw Park Fund raising event at Central Winds Park on Saturday, June 7, 2003. IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: March 25, 2003 June 6, 2003 June 7, 2003 Begin promotion of event. Event Setup. Event conducted 9am to 3pm and clean up. COMMISSION ACTION: 2 ATTACHMENT #1 FRIENDS OF LEASH OPTIONAL PARKS FUNDRAISER PROPOSAL We the members of the organization "Friends of Leash Optional Parks" would hereby like to declare our intention of having a fund-raiser to help offset the startup costs that will be incurred when our proposed Paw Park Project commences. The purpose of this fund-raiser will be to help defray the fencing and other costs involved in opening a Paw Park in Winter Springs. For any that do not already know, a Paw Park is a park where owners and pets are welcome together. A Paw Park is not only fenced for the animals safety, but water and cleanup stations are also provided to keep the park as sanitary, and animal friendly as possible. It is our intention to raise funds with the help of community volunteers. Our methods of fundraising may include, but are not limited to, the following activities: DOG WASHING: Whereby pets are washed for a cash donation FOOD SALES: By outside vendors or volunteers AGILITY TRAINING: Whereby owners will pay a fee to run their pet through an obstacle course with a professional trainer RAFFLE DRAWINGS: Donated prizes may be raffled off with tickets purchased on site RESCUE ORGANfZA nONS: Animal rescue organizations may pay a fee to be on site, and available for adoptions FRIENDS OF LEASH OPTIONAL PARKS BOOTH: We may have a booth on site to give out information, and premiums awarded for different levels of donation It is our hope that with the help of the city, and our volunteers, that we are able to make a Paw Park in Winter Springs a reality FOOD .. fUll ..
