REQUEST: Police Department requesting the Commission to give approval to donate
$1,000.00 from the Special Law Enforcement Trust Fund to Winter Springs High School
to use for the Alcohol and Drug Free Grad Night program.
PURPOSE: To seek the consent of the Commission to support a substance abuse
program for this year's Grad Night celebration in cooperation with other law enforcement
agencies throughout Seminole County and the Seminole County Public Schools.
CONSIDERATIONS: The City has been requested to share in the funding for the
2003 graduating class of Winter Springs High School. Project Graduation is a safe, drug
and alcohol-free all-night party that is organized by parents, faculty and students. The
amount 0 f t he donation is $ l,OOO.OO. Each city in Seminole County and the Seminole
County Sheriffs Department assists the various high schools in supporting this
worthwhile program. Traditionally, under F.S.S. 932.7055 4(a) 1., and subsection 3 this
donation can be taken from the Special Law Enforcement Fund with the approval of the
Commission. The Police Department has contributed a donation of $1,000.00 to the Grad
night program each year since 1999.
FUNDING: Existing funds from the Special Law Enforcement Fund have been
budgeted for account #58000 Grants and Aids (Project Graduation) in the amount of
$1,000.00.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the donation of$1,000.00 to assist the Winter
Springs High School Drug and Alcohol Free Grad Night.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
Immediately upon approval by Commission.

Project Graduation and authorization to solicit

The current senior class of Winter Springs High School will soon be the graduating
class of 2003. Project Graduation is a safe, drug and alcohol free all night party
planned for these graduates, organized by parents, faculty and students.
We need support from our local business and community leaders to insure the
success of this worthwhile event. Expenses for Project Graduation are numerous
and include: transportation, facility rental, security, food, entertainment and door
prizes.

PROJECT GRADUA TION 2003
To Whom It May Concern:
This is to verify that the bearer of this letter has the authority to solicit
donations' and contributions of services, cash or m'erchandise-on
behalf of the Winter Springs High School Project Graduation Party for
2003.
Any assistance that you can supply will help us provide a drug and
alcohol free safe all night graduation party for our seniors of the
Class of 2003. A list of sponsors and seniors will be placed in liThe
Bear Necessities" that is mailed to all the students and their families,
and an ad thanking all the donors will also be placed in the Winters
Springs High School Newspaper. You will receive a certificate to
place in your business to show you have supported and contributed to
Project Graduation.
