HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003 03 10 Consent G 2003 Summer Day Camp Program COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM G CONSENT X INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR 3/1 0/03 Meeting MGR. ~ /DEPT ~ \Y Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department requests the City Commission's approval to conduct its 2003 Summer Day Camp Program at the Church of the New Covenant Facilities and authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with them. PURPOSE: To approve the Church of the New Covenant Facility as the site of the 2003 Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp Program and authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with them. CONSIDERATIONS: · The Parks and Recreation Department successfully conducted a summer day camp program in 1999,2000,2001 and 2002 at the Sunshine Park Civic Center. · The Sunshine Park Civic Center front and back area is scheduled for construction activities to demolish the old rest room/storage building and construct a new restroom/storage building. · The Parks and Recreation Department has many safety concerns regarding the children at the Sunshine Park Civic Center site during construction. The church of the New Covenant is willing to execute an agreement for the use of their facility. · Parks and Recreation will closely monitor income and expenses to ensure completion of the program within available revenues. FUNDING: Funding is budgeted in the amount of $ 50,000 for the Summer Day Camp Program. RECOMMENDATION: The Parks and Recreation Department recommends that the 2003 Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp be conducted at the Church of New Covenant Facilities and that the City Manager be authorized to execute an agreement with them. All parents have signed that they understand and will follow the rules and regulations of our program. Please be familiar with what parents expect from us in regards to these general rules and regulations. 1. Children must be signed out by their parent/legal guardian each day. No one is permitted to leave the facility or pick up a child without written parental consent. The City does not allow visiting family and friends to attend our summer camp for the day. 2. Each child is required to wear a shirt, shorts and athletic shoes each day. Towels, swim suits and water bottles are needed each day. Children may wear a WHITE T-shirt over their swimsuits when in the pool. SUNSCREEN SHOULD BE APPLIED AT HOME EACH MORNING - 80% OF OUR DAY IS SPENT OUTDOORS. 3. Please label belongings. 4. Children must bring a non-perishable lunch and drink EACH day. We have two scheduled snack times each day. Snacks are available with items ranging from $.50 to $1.00. 5. Children must remain with their groups at all times. Behavior that might cause an accident or hurt others will not be tolerated. If your child is asked to leave camp due to disciplinary reasons, there are no refunds. 6. Do not send sick children to camp. Parents will be required to pick up sick children. Staff is not permitted to administer medicine of any kind. If your child requires medical attention beyond a Band-Aid, City Paramedics will be notified. 7. The City of Winter Springs is not responsible for items lost, damaged or stolen on the site of New Covenant Church or during field trips. Children should not bring games or toys to camp. In addition, parents have signed that they understand there is $5.00 per 10 minute fee charged for children not picked up by 5:30 PM. In the same matter, children should not be permitted into the facility or considered our responsibility until 7:30 AM. These are general rules and regulations. Good sound judgment should always be applied. Summer Rules 00 Where children shine brightly! Rules for Behavior At Camp Sunshine 1 J Everyone at Camp Sunshine, both children and staff, are to be treated with respect at all times. 2J No swearing or rude language of any kind. 3J Do not interrupt while someone else is talking. 4J Absolutely no fighting. 5J Do not touch equipment or games, until instructed. 6J Do not bring toys from home. No Gameboys, Walkmans or Pokemon. 7) Clean up after yourself (lunch, snacks and on trips). -: 8J Ask your own counselor questions or directions, do not ask anyone else, the answer is final.
