HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006 12 11 Regular 309 Nominating Next Deputy Mayor COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 309 Regular December 11. 2006 Regular Meeting Authorization REQUEST: The City Clerk respectfully requests that the City Commission consider nominating the next Deputy Mayor as stipulated in the Charter of the City of Winter Springs, consistent with actions in the past. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Agenda Item is for the City Commission to nominate the next Deputy Mayor to represent the City Commission for the City of Winter Springs, as stipulated under the City's Charter, Section 4.05. Mayor. CONSIDERATIONS: Section 4.05. Mayor. of the City of Winter Springs' new Charter states, "The city commission shall elect from among its members a deputy mayor who shall act as mayor during the absence or disability of the mayor, and if a vacancy occurs, shall become mayor for the remainder of the un-expired term ofthe mayor." CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA CITY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING - DECEMBER I 1,2006 REGULAR AGENDA ITEM 309 PAGE 2 OF2 Last year, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 12, 2005, and at this Meeting, Deputy Mayor/Commissioner Michael S. Blake received the majority Vote to continue serving as Deputy Mayor. The previous year, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 13, 2004, and at this Meeting, Commissioner Michael S. Blake received the majority Vote to serve as Deputy Mayor. Prior to that Meeting, the prior Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held on June 14, 2004 as Deputy Mayor/Commissioner Edward Martinez, Jr. had resigned in May 2004 from the City Commission, and the position of Deputy Mayor was now open. Commissioner Robert S. Miller received the majority Vote to complete this term as Deputy Mayor. Previous to that, the last Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 8, 2003. And, at the Regular Meeting of December 8, 2003, Commissioner Edward Martinez, Jr. received the majority Vote to serve as Deputy Mayor. At the Regular Meeting of December 9, 2002, Commissioner Robert S. Miller received the majority Vote to serve as Deputy Mayor. RECOMMENDATION: The City Commission is asked to appoint a Member of the City Commission to serve as the next Deputy Mayor. COMMISSION ACTION:
