HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006 12 11 Regular 301 Permanent Dog Park COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 301 Regular December 11, 2006 Regular Meeting Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting the City Commission approval to proceed with the planning for a Permanent Dog Park on the Central Winds Expansion Property (Wincey) per the attached Concept Master Plan. PURPOSE: To obtain Commission approval to proceed with the planning for a Permanent Dog Park per the Concept Master Plan. CONSIDERATIONS: . The Dog Park has been a very popular Recreation Facility for the public and there is a need for a Permanent Dog Park. . The City Commission directed staff at the September 11, 2006 meeting to work out the necessary plans to provide for a Permanent Dog Park location in Central Winds Park. . Parks and Recreation staff has met several times and have incorporated the comments of FLOP and the City Staff. . The Master Plan shows the relocation of the dog park to the front (area near 434) of the Central Winds Expansion Property adjacent to the Cross Seminole Trail. . The current usage of Youth Football, Lacrosse, and the Event Park will continue on the site just near the center of the expansion property. . The Temporary Dog Park Site was only approved until September 3, 2007. It may need to be extended based on the construction schedule of the Dog Park and the Water Reclamation Facility. . FLOP, Friends of Leash Optional Park will again raise funds and obtain services toward the Dog Park construction cost. . Parks and Recreation will be identifying the costs in the FY07/08 Budget. December 11, 2006 Agenda Item Regular Page -2- FUNDING: The funding required and sources available will be identified when this project is included in the Parks and Recreation Capital Improvement Budget for 07/08. RECOMMENDATIONS: The Parks and Recreation Department recommends that the City Commission approve Proceeding with the planning for a Permanent Dog Park on the Central Winds Park Expansion Property (Wincey) per the Concept Master Plan.
