HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006 12 11 Consent 402 Repairs to Edgemon Ave/SR 419 Traffic Signal COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 402 CONSENT December 11, 2006 Meeting Authorization REQUEST: Public Works Department Requesting Authorization to Piggyback ofT of Seminole County Contract # IFB-3110-05/GMG for repairs to the Edgemon Avenue/S.R. 419 traffic signal mast arms. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to request authorization for the City Manager to piggyback off of Seminole County contract #IFB-3110-05/GMG with Chinchor Electric to repair the damaged mast arm at the intersection of Edgemon Avenue and S.R. 419 estimated to cost $20,000. CONSIDERATIONS: This agenda item is needed authorize the City Manager to exceed the $12,500 authorization limit for needed repairs to the Edgemon Avenue/S.R. 419 traffic signal mast arm. On November 27,2006, a dump truck southbound on S.R. 419 with its' bed up struck the traffic signal heads and mast arm. Damage is estimated at $20,000 but it could be more. Seminole County has a contract for traffic signal installation and repairs with Chinchor Electric that the City can piggyback off of for the repairs needed. The truck driver was cited by Winter Springs Police for Careless Driving and No Proof of Insurance. Staff will be pursuing reimbursement of all repairs costs with the truck owners' insurance company. FUNDING: Repair funds will be advanced from the Transportation Improvement Fund Repair and Maintenance of Traffic Control Devices (104-54620). 121106_ COMM _ Consent_ 402_ Edgemon _ Mast_Arm _Repair December 11, 2006 Consent Agenda Item 402 Page 2 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission authorize the City Manager to exceed the $12,500 purchasing limit to perform whatever repairs to the Edgmon A venue/S.R. 419 traffic signal are necessary by piggybacking off of Seminole County contract #IFB-3110-05/GMG with Chinchor Electric and to authorize any supplemental appropriations necessary from the Transportation Improvement Fund to fund these repairs prior to reimbursement from the damaging party. Costs are estimated at $20,000 but could be higher is subsurface damage exists. IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: Repair authorization will be initiated upon approval.
