HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005 11 28 Regular 502 COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 502 CONSENT INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR X November 28, 2005 Meeting MGR Authorization REQUEST: The Community Development Department, Urban Beautification Services Division and the Capital Projects Coordinator are requesting the installation of Canopy Trees in the Village Walk Project be delayed until funds become available. PURPOSE: This Agenda Item is needed to request authorization from the City Commission to delay the installation of Canopy Trees along SR 434 between Sheoah Boulevard and SR 419 (Village Walk) until funding potentially becomes available in January 2006 from the One Cent Sales Tax, SR434 Access Management Contingency Fund. CONSIDERATIONS: On April 9, 2005, City Staff met with Commissioner Miller to discuss the installation of canopy trees in the Village Walk area of SR 434 located between Sheoah Boulevard and SR 419, in the rights-of-way between the roadway and sidewalk. On May 24, 2005, the Capital Projects Coordinator completed detailed plans for additional landscaping in these areas which included 90 canopy trees and irrigation heads, strategically placed throughout the current Seminole County Access Management Project (Village Walk). The additional landscaping could be installed, if funding is available, once the Seminole County Project is completed. On June 13, 2005, Item 500 was presented to the City Commission providing a chronological history of the SR 434 Access Management Plan and the plan for the Village 112805_ COMM_Regular_502_SR434_ Village_ Walk_Tree]lanting Walk corridor to aid the Commission In deciding how to proceed with additional landscaping and tree canopy. Project Cost Projections (Tree Canopy): . (90) - 100 gallon Canopy trees installed in existing rights-of-way and easements along SR434 between Sheoah Blvd. and SR 419. Varieties of trees include: Live Oak, Sand Live Oak, Winged Elm, Sycamore, Maple, Allee Elm, Laurel Oak and Bald Cypress. . Bubbler irrigation for each tree attached to existing zone valves. . Establishment Process. Additional watering, fertilization and care. Total $ 90.000 FUNDING: Potential funding mayor may not be available from the One Cent Sales Tax Contingency Fund, which originally totaled $340,000, for the existing SR434 Access Management Project (Village Walk). Information regarding the remaining contingency, if any, should become available in January 2006 once the current project is complete. No other source of funding for this project has been identified at this time. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Commission delay plans for the installation of Canopy Trees along SR434 (Village Walk) from Sheoah Boulevard to SR419, at a cost of $90,000, until funding becomes available for the project.
