REQUEST: Public Works Department Requesting Supplemental Appropriation for a
Handicap Accessability Ramp in the City Hall Commission Chambers and
Electronic Door Access for the City Hall eastside rear door.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to request a supplemental appropriation of$1,400
for a Wheelchair Ramp that will provide Handicap Access to the dias on a temporary
basis and $2,000 to install electronic access so the Fire Dept. staff can enter the City
Hall eastside rear door.
CONSIDERATIONS:
These supplemental appropriation& are needed to provide handicap access to the dias
in the City Commission chambers and allow for the Fire Dept. personnel to access their
temporary quarters without having to go through the lobby. The appropriation will provide
for the purchase of a portable multifold ramp to be installed on a temporary basis when
needed and the installation of the electronic access. Currently, there is a need for handicap
access for the Code Enforcement Board meetings.
The ramp to be purchased will be twelve feet long and will provide access on an
interim basis until a permanent solution is constructed. The architect designing the City Hall
expansion has been advised to include handicap access to the dias in their design
considerations.
The electronic access will be consistent with the front and rear door swipe card
system currently in place which provides after hours ingress and egress history.

FUNDING:
The $1,400 for the ramp and the $2,000 for the electronic access would be
appropriated from General Fund Reserves to a capital equipment (1910-64000) and
capital buildings (1910-62000) line code, respectively, in the General Services - City
Hall budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve a supplemental
appropriation of $3,400 to General Services - City Hall budget for the purchase of a
portable handicap access ramp and install electronic access to the City Hall east side
rear door for the Fire Dept.
IMPLEMENTA TION SCHEDULE:
The funds will be transferred after Commission approval and the ramp purchase
immediately thereafter.
