Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is notifying the City Commission of the status of the Florida Recreational Development Assistance Program Grant regarding the Torcaso Park Expansion. PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to update the City Commission on the status of the grant application. CONSIDERATIONS: . On September 10,2001, the Commission approved the submission ofa Florida Recreational Development Assistance Program Grant to the State of Florida, Department of Environmental Protection. . On January 23, 2002, City Staff received the project priority list (ranking) of all grant applications. . The City of Winter Springs; Torcaso Park Expansion Project, scored #36 out of 134 large projects. This ranking should qualify the city to receive funding in the amount of $ 200,000.00 subject to State appropriations in the next fiscal year. . On June 26, 2002, the Department of Environmental Protection notified staff that the City of Winter Springs has been approved for $ 200,000.00 for the Torcaso Park Expansion. . Including this grant, the city will have received a total of $ 950,000 in State Grants over a 3- year period. 1 FUNDING: None required. RECOMMENDATION: None required. IMPLEMENT A TION SCHEDULE: Aug. - Sept. 2002 Execution of Project Agreement and Implementation Workshop. Jan. - Feb. 2003 Completion documentation submitted. We are pleased to inform you that the Florida Legislature has funded the 2002-2003 Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) priority list. The City of Winter Springs has been approved for $200,000, which is a grant for Torcaso Park, Phase II. The support of the Legislature is critical for continued funding ofFRDAP projects. With that in mind, a ceremonial check for your project is enclosed. We encourage a joint event with your legislative delegation and local elected officials. Your legislative delegation will be notified that your project was funded and that the ceremonial check was sent to you. A sample of the letter sent to legislators is enclosed. We suggest you coordinate with them for a dedication ceremony. To assist you with this grant, we will conduct two Grant Implementation Workshops. The workshops will be held in Tallahassee on July 25 at DEP's Twin Towers Complex and at the Kissimmee Civic Center on July 23. Attendance is not mandatory but if you have not previously attended, we strongly encourage your participation. All workshops will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon. Driving instructions are enclosed. A ceremonial check for each project has been mailed to the local project sponsor. Enclosed is a list of FRDAP projects sorted by county with the name and phone number of the sponsor for your use~ We know you are proud of these projects and may wish to schedule presentations, groundbreakings, site dedications, or other appropriate ceremonies to make others aware of these achievements. We encourage ajoint event with the legislative delegation, local elected officials, and the project sponsor. We have suggested the project sponsor contact you to coordinate the event or you may wish to contact the sponsor directly.
