HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005 09 12 Informational Item 302 ,--- COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 302 CONSENT INFORMATIONAL X PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR September 12,2005 Meeting MGR /DEPT~ Authorization REQUEST: Police Department informing the Commission of its grant award of $12,000.00 from Seminole County Board of Commissioners. PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to inform the Commission that the Police Department has been awarded a Drug Abuse Trust Fund Grant from the Seminole County Board of Commissioners. CONSIDERATIONS: The Drug Abuse grant will to be used to purchase a mobile classroom for Drug Awareness Programs, youth programs including movie night, DARE, and the summer basketball youth league. By utilizing a mobile classroom trailer the Department can reach out to all neighborhoods within the city. We became aware of this non-competitive grant through Seminole County Drug Abuse Trust Fund. The Police Department submitted an application in April for this grant in the amount of $12,000.00 to be purchase the 28 foot trailer. The grant was awarded on August 16, 2005 and will allow the Police Department to purchase the 28 foot enclosed classroom trailer. A separate Law Enforcement Block Grant of $5,569.00 was awarded on March 9, 2005 to Police Department for the purchase of a video and audio system that will be installed in the new trailer and used in various youth programs hosted by the Police Department Community Service Bureau. The Drug Abuse Trust Fund Grant is for $12,000.00 from Seminole County trust fund with county funding and there are no matching funds required by the City. FUNDING: None at this time. RECOMMENDATION: None at this time. COMMISSION ACTION:
